Dan is a fourth year trumpet player studying on the prestigious and highly competitive ‘joint course’ between the University of Manchester and the Royal Northern College of Music. He receives tuition from Rhys Owens and Murray Greig, having previously been taught by John Miller, Gareth Small, and Ray Allen.

Primarily an orchestral musician, but also an accomplished jazz, contemporary and natural trumpet player, Dan regularly contributes to many ensembles at both the RNCM and externally. He has recently begun to freelance with professional orchestras including Opera North, The Hallé, Manchester Camerata, Bruckner Lintz Orchestre, and the Dutch National Opera.

Since being in Manchester, Dan has taken a keen interest in historical performance and has played the natural trumpet with the RNCM Chamber orchestra and performs regularly with the UOM Baroque ensemble. Outside of the RNCM, he has performed solo trumpet in Handel’s Messiah with the Salford Choral Society.

Dan has branched into contemporary performance, playing with RNCM’s Brand New Orchestra on multiple occasions and performing Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Crying out loud for a masterclass with the composer in the New Music North West Festival. In 2015 Dan was selected to play alongside the LPO brass ensemble for the opening of the newly refurbished organ at the Royal Festival Hall, playing a world premiere fanfare by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.

Dan is a keen jazz trumpet player and has played with the RNCM Session orchestra and RNCM Big Band as well as contributing regularly to a Cuban Band and performing in musicals with local amateur dramatic societies.

Dan is also a distinguished chamber performer, playing in two quintets, Quintoot and All Saints Brass, and is also the founding member of two original groups: Factory Brass and the RNCM natural trumpet consort.

Outside of the UK, Dan has performed the Baldassare piccolo trumpet concerto at the Musique Cordiale international festival in France, as well as competing in competitions in Germany and Holland.
